Catching flights is one of my favorite things to do. Over the years and airline miles I've learned a thing or two about how to make the journey more enjoyable. This series of {Travel Tips} will help you learn my very best ways to make the most of your travels. Here's what I want you to know about the things I'm recommending to you via {links}:
I won't actually pay for luxury or First Class travel but I will always find a way to make traveling as comfortable as possible, in coach or otherwise. I bring the comfort and "luxury" with me and avoid paying for upgrades along the way! I've compiled this list of items and tricks that help me stay comfortable and sane when traveling. Steal one or a few of these for your next trip! Pillow and BlanketEddie Bauer Two-in-One Travel Pillow - The two-in-one Travel Pillow from Eddie Bauer is a true life saver. It's your standard C-shaped neck pillow that magically transforms into a small and very comfortable rectangular pillow! Don't suffer with your C-shaped plane pillow or a "pillow" made of sweatshirts, get yourself this travel pillow and catch a few extra ZZZs on your next trip. My husband, both of my parents, and my brother and sister-in-law all have them now. This pillow has saved me several times, allowing me to sleep comfortably when I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. I've cozied up with it, in regular pillow shape, on a ferry boat couch, on a train, and in numerous hotel beds when only awful pillows were provided. Making the switch from one shape to another is super simple and the pillow is so useful in either configuration. You can, of course, use it around your neck on a plane in the C-shape. Often times if I'm in the window seat I prefer to use it in regular pillow shape between my head and the wall. This pillow will change your travel naps, I swear. Blanket - I've traveled with my own blanket for as long as I can remember. I'm someone who is always cold so it's a necessity. Plus, you never know if the airline will provide blankets on a flight and/or what people have done with them EW! I don't have a specific recommendation, steal your favorite throw from home and take it on the road with you. Headphones and Sleepy PlaylistHeadphones - I enjoy flying but sometimes the sounds of the dozens of humans around me is just too much for me to handle, I need to be able to zone them all out. For that reason I always travel with headphones. And a backup pair! Being on a plane without headphones should be illegal. (I'm looking at you, kids with iPads on full volume!) Sleepy Playlist - When I'm trying to sleep on a plane I turn to my trusty sleepy playlist. I made mine on iTunes but you could easily find one on Spotify. Collect the most relaxing and peaceful songs you can find and tuck yourself in with your blanket and Eddie Bauer pillow and the flight attendant will have to wake you up before landing! Water Bottle and SnacksDon't be desperate for the drink and snack carts as they slowly inch down the plane aisle, travel with your own snacks and a refillable water bottle! Water bottle - While you cannot bring liquids through security you can bring an empty water bottle. (See my favorite water bottle here.) Most airports have a specific water bottle refill station these days and you can always refill in a restroom sink or airport restaurant. The last thing you want to be while flying is dehydrated! Snacks - I love to stock up on snacks for trips! I bring enough to get me through the flight there, during my trip, and the way home. You cannot survive on Biscoff cookies and pretzels alone. Pack a combination of sweet, salty, healthy, junk food, and so on. Bringing your own snacks ensures you won't be starved if you don't get or like the food on your flight(s) or in the airport(s) along the way. Here's a post I did a few years ago on some of my favorite plane snacks! Yoga Toes and Blisters Bee GoneOnce I've arrived at my destination my concern turns to keeping my feet in good shape. We do a ton of wondering and walking on our trips and keeping my feet in tip-top shape is always a high priority of mine. Yoga Toes - I had my eye on Yoga Toes for years before I bought them and I wish I'd never hesitated! These odd looking contraptions go right between your toes, similar to the pedicure toe separators. Yoga toes are uncomfortable at first but after a few minutes they relieve all of the soreness in your feet from being cramped into shoes all day long! Your feet will feel so much better after a few minutes with these little gems. I leave them on for anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes and I've fallen asleep with them on countless times. I use my Yoga Toes almost every night on vacation and even lay on the ground with my feet/legs up a wall if they're particularly sore (hello Disney World!). I've been digging them out of my travel gear and using them at home often, too. Blisters Bee Gone - I found this one in a magazine and gave it a try and it's gone on every trip with me since. Blisters Bee Gone is like a big chapstick for your feet. It's made with beeswax, hence the clever name. You apply it to the problem areas before a big day of walking and it helps to fend off blisters. I put it on my baby toe and the next one (Ring toe? Fourth toe?) and it really does the trick! I bet runners would love this product. I hope one of this tips will help to make your next trip a little more luxurious! Let me know which you liked best via Instagram, Facebook, or email.
