Catching flights is one of my favorite things to do. Over the years and airline miles I've learned a thing or two about how to make the journey more enjoyable. This series of {Travel Tips} will help you learn my very best ways to make the most of your travels. The battle between spending money and using vacation time is a tough one. We often chose to fly out of town on a Thursday night, after work, in order to arrive in our destination on Friday morning. Catching a red-eye flight has its benefits: the ticket price is better and you also don't need to spend a cent on a hotel for that night! The flip side to the cost savings is the way you feel, physically and mentally, when you haven't slept in a bed since the night BEFORE last. I've found the remedy for a red-eye flight: it's a massage. Here's why a massage is just what you need after an overnight flight:
My husband and I first got post red-eye massages at the Mokara Spa in the Omni Hotel Nashville. (Read more about our visit to Nashville here!) We scheduled our appointments in advance so we could get in ASAP after our very early morning airport arrival. After our hour long massages we each showered, changed clothes, and ventured out in Nashville for the day feeling refreshed and ready for the day in a way we surely wouldn't have otherwise. We weren't staying at the Omni Hotel but they were happy to hold our bags at the front desk when we told them we had appointments at their spa and that we couldn't check in until later in the day. (We took a small bag with us to the spa with our change of clothes, then returned it to the storage/front desk before we departed for the day.) We explored Nashville for hours before returning in the afternoon to pick up our bags and head to our AirBNB. When we checked into the AirBNB at 4 pm we were already showered for the day so we could take a nap or relax before dinner without the rush! We tested this remedy again just last month at Haven Spa in NYC. (See more about our NYC trip here and here!) This time our hotel was ready for us to check in early so we didn't have to fuss with suitcases. We dropped our bags at our own hotel then walked just a few blocks to Haven Spa. It was FREEZING COLD and we were so happy to take refuge from the cold on a heated massage table, then in a steam room! Massages are wonderful and I wish I got them more often in my regular-at-home-life. They're so good for your body and mind and I swear they're the perfect remedy for a red-eye flight. Massages can be expensive, of course, but I'm happy to spend on a massage when I've saved some cash on a red-eye flight and one travel day without a hotel stay! Let me know if you try my red-eye remedy of getting a massage! I'd love to hear your tips and tricks for surviving the travel day after a red-eye flight, too.
