We took our second and final trip of this very Covid summer last week. It was my second visit to Texas and Bryce's first. Don't miss the corresponding {Travel Guide} for Central Texas for things to do and more about Buc-ee's! Check out the Austin, Texas - Fav 5 {Travel Guide} for more good eats and Texas sized fun. Bryce (my husband) and I traveled to Texas to visit with his brother, our sister in law, and our niece and nephew for some quality family time and for Bryce to help with and learn from some house flipping projects. We spent a week in Central Texas and ate like kings and queens! We spent most of our time in New Braunfels, where our family lives, with jaunts into San Marcos and Austin. This delicious list of {the food} in Central Texas will make your mouth water. Each item contains a link to the restaurant or brand and many of the producers sell their goods all over Texas. Tacos, Tacos, Tacos Torchy's Tacos (locations all over Texas) Torchy's makes the BEST tacos! I ate a ton of them during my first trip to Austin a few years ago and gladly ate them twice on this Texas visit. Torchy's has a ton of great options like Mr. Orange (salmon), the Prawn Star (the current taco of the month), and Baja Shrimp. The meat eaters loved the Trailer Park (fried chicken) tacos the most. Guero's Taco Bar (in Austin) Guero's is a must visit spot located on South Congress Street right in the heart of Austin. The Purist margarita and fish taco (marinated grilled fish) were both delicious. The ALL STAR item is the shrimp taco that's also stuffed with grilled mushrooms and green tomatillos. Breakfast Avocado Toast & Cappuccino (at home) We ate breakfast at home often and nothing makes me feel more ME than starting the day with a cappuccino & smashed avocado and everything bagel seasoning on a toasted English muffin. This is one of the perks of staying with family when traveling, they stocked up on my breakfast groceries and we ate meals at home a handful of times over the week long visit. Watch the Tips for Traveling More {video} for more ways to travel more and minimize spending while doing so. Cracker Barrel (locations all over the country) It had been years since I visited a Cracker Barrel! The breakfast sandwich with 2 eggs, cheese, tomato, and mayo on sourdough with a side of the hash brown casserole was filling, buttery, and delicious! Shipley Do-Nuts (locations all over Texas) Try the strawberry iced with sprinkles, chocolate iced, maple iced, and cinnamon sugar! Drinks Jo's Coffee (in Austin) This is where the 'i love you so much' graffiti art is and Jo's coffee is delicious. On a sweltering hot Texas day we had a quick family photo shoot and I enjoyed an iced Belgian Bomber which is half of their Iced Turbo (coffee, espresso, hazelnut, chocolate, and cream) and half cold brewed, unsweetened iced coffee. While it's less sweet than the Iced Turbo it's still sweet and delicious! Mighty Swell Spiked Spritzers (brewed in Austin) I love a White Claw or a Truly Lemonade seltzer. We stopped in a gas station/convenience store on our way to the lake one day and I grabbed a 6-pack of watermelon mint Mighty Swell and they were PERFECT. Not too sweet and with delicious flavor. More Texas Food Buc-ees (many in Texas, one in Alabama) This place is WILD. It's a huge campus of a Texas-sized gas station and convenience store. It's the world's largest convenience store (of course nobody outside of the USA cares about such a title!) and they've officially got the cleanest restrooms in America. Among the billions of items in the Buc-ees store I was most excited to find they fig preserves. I ate it with crackers and cheddar cheese, yum. Want more Buc-ee's? Watch the Figs and Flights {video} for more and the rest of the Central Texas {Travel Guide}. BBQ (non-specific) Texas BBQ is a very real thing. I wasn't surprised that there weren't any proper meat-less, vegetarian, or seafood options for dinner. Don't fret because BBQ is a lot like Thanksgiving dinner - meat is the center of the show while the side dishes are plentiful and even better. I feasted on corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, and a baked potato before trying all three fresh fruit cobblers. In-N-Out Burger (locations in Texas, many in California) Bryce and his whole family are from California and we are all delighted that there's In-N-Out Burger in Texas! Here's everything you need to know about ordering at In-N-Out Burger. Jason's Deli (locations across the country) I had an incredible salmon sandwich on ciabatta bread from Jason's Deli. There were a ton of shrimp options in Texas, which was lovely. Only at Jason's and at Torchy's did I find salmon! Thanks y'all for visiting Texas with me! We'll be back again at least once every two years now that our family has made the Lone Star State their home. Similar Posts
