Earlier this year I launched Figs and Flights {events}. They're an in person celebration of my motto: life fueled by food and travel. They are an extension of the Figs and Flights blog and brand. The {events} typically take place in Seattle but this time we partied in Honolulu! We'd hoped to catch the Grand Opening of Stewbum & Stonewall Brewing Company while we visiting Honolulu last month. The brewery was not ready to open, officially, but that didn't stop me from getting in and planning a Figs and Flights {event}. What's important to know is that Darren, the Owner and Brewer of Stewbum & Stonewall, is my cousin! Despite being 8 years apart we are the closest in age of our generation. He's full of great ideas! He graduated from college then I graduated from college. He moved to Hawaii THEN I MOVED TO HAWAII! I don't think I'll end up brewing beer some day but I hope his bravery and entrepreneurial spirit are transferred to me. A few years ago Darren opened Stewbum & Stonewall in a small space in an off-the-beaten-path spot just outside Honolulu. That's where he made the beer and where guests could try a small taster and purchase a growler to-go. Now he's upgrading the brewery in a major way. The new Stewbum & Stonewall Brewing Co. is located right in the heart of downtown Honolulu. It's steps away from my favorite bar/where I met Bryce and a few blocks from my first real job! The new Stewbum location is HUGE and filled with giant beer making tanks. There will be beer, of course, plus cocktails, food, TVs, plenty of seating, and some of the coolest bathrooms you've seen! There's nothing like this in Honolulu and you can bet it will be filled with Steeler fans every Sunday. We enjoyed a Sneak Peek at the new Stewbum & Stonewall Brewing Co. on a hot October Saturday night. I invited all of my friends, former colleagues, and even some families I used to babysit for! Everyone was excited to get into the never-before-seen brewery. We were able to take tours of the brewery with Darren and learn all about the brewing process. The kids' favorite part was getting to go into the walk in cooler! Of course I came prepared to share my favorite local treats: Leonard's Malasads, both original and li hing, Liliha Bakery Cream Puffs and Coco Puffs, and Butter Mochi from Foodland. Stewbum & Stonewall should be opening any day now! Follow along on Facebook or Instagram for freshly poured updates. During your next visit to Oahu or your next pau hana in Chinatown be sure to try a pint at Stewbum & Stonewall and tell Darren that I (Ang!) sent you. Similar Posts
