Life fueled by food and travel

NYC & Pittsburgh {Overview}

12/17/2019

I'm getting ready for my very last trip of 2019, a visit to New York, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

My husband, Bryce, and I are spending 3 days exploring in NYC before we head to my hometown of Pittsburgh for 5 days, for Christmas!

Follow Figs and Flights on Instagram and Facebook to watch the trip unfold.

NYC at Christmastime in 2006, my last visit to the City!

New York City

Why NYC?

I have always been fascinated by "the City," I planned to move there after college but moved to Hawaii instead. I've been there a few times, just for a day here and there when I lived in PA. (Check out the photos from my visit in 2006!) Bryce has visited for a summer weekend but we've never been together. We are excited to get lost in the City for a few days, playing tourist, relaxing, eating, and enjoying the Christmas spirit!

The Details:
  • Flight - We're taking a red-eye flight from Seattle to NYC.
  • Lodging - We're staying at the Moxy East Village, so cute!
  • Objectives - To explore so much, get massages, eat great (Italian) food, visit the Statue of Liberty, see a show at the Comedy Cellar, and visit the Tenement Museum

Truly a sign of the times in 2006, Angelina and Brad were still a couple! At Madam Tussauds Wax Museum.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Why Pittsburgh?

It's home for me! I get home every-other-Christmas and this is my year.

The Details:
  • Flight - You can drive from NYC to Pittsburgh but I don't want to mess around with snowy or icy roads in the middle of a vacation! We're flying, thanks.
  • Lodging - MY ROOM AT MOM AND DAD'S HOUSE!
  • Objectives - Celebrate Christmas Eve at home, eat all of my Mom's homemade cookies: biscotti, pizelles, 8 layer cookies, etc., continue my favorite tradition of Christmas PJs for my baby cousins (who are all now bigger than me!), and visit with as many friends as I possibly can.

I'm excited for some holiday fun despite the cold! I hope you'll have a wonderful end to 2019.
