How to Pack for Carry On Travel {Travel Tips} Video #16

Figs and Flights {videos} launch every Tuesday.

Figs and Flights Video #16 includes {Travel Tips} for packing for carry on travel.

Bryce and I explain our process for packing and why we only travel with carry on bags. We share our best tips and rules for doing so to help you do the same.

We answer questions about suitcases, folding vs. rolling clothes, and if we use packing cubes.

NOTE: The very light blue Away bag is the carry on. I exchanged it for the darker blue "the bigger carry-on" bag and love, love, LOVE the bigger carry-on.

Pros and Cons of Carry On Travel

pros
- Your bag never leaves your side, gets lost, delayed, or damaged
- You never have to wait at the baggage claim

cons
- Packing is much harder since space is limited and liquids must be in 3 oz or smaller containers

Our Carry On Bags

We both LOVE our suitcases and they're carry on certified sizes. The Away bag has a few distinct advantages including better wheels.

Ang's bag is the Away "The Bigger Carry-On."

Bryce's bag is the Dakine Status Roller 42L+.

Carry On Packing Tips

  1. Plan all of your outfits in advance
  2. Be sure that some items can be worn more than once (shoes, shorts/pants, etc.)
  3. Always bring your bathing suit (Bryce's #1 and only rule!)
  4. Always pack a sweater/sweatshirt and a hat
  5. Wear your biggest shoes on the plane to save room in your bag
  6. Keep your toiletry bag stocked, always, and refill after each trip - see the blog post on Packing a Carry On Toiletry Bag for more tips on that
