Fav 5 Travel Guides are a short list of the best things I've found to do, see, eat, or drink in a particular location. This guide is for Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks specifically during the Halloween season! Look no further for more on Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, or a similar post on both parks during Christmastime. Our visit to Disney was part of our trip to Palm Springs, Disneyland, and Oahu. My Fav 5 {Travel Guide} for Halloween at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure includes the following.
Notes from this Trip. Before we dive into the details let's discuss just a few things about this particular trip to Disneyland and DCA. It was my first time seeing the castle after the remodel! Last year the castle was literally under wraps for months and this year she's back and looking fresh and gorgeous! I love the new brighter, pinker, shinier state of Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Do you like the new look or prefer the old vibes better? Disney Park regulars know the strategies to keep everyone sane, satiated, hydrated, and in the park for as many hours as possible. Bringing your own snacks to the park is one of my best and favorite tips. I couldn't help but laugh at myself and my resourcefulness when I, dressed as Mary Poppins, pulled a snack pack of olives out of my carpet bag! [For more tips and tricks see Disney Parks Basics or brush up on your Disney-speak with Decoding Disney.] For the very first time ever I noticed the old school Starbucks logo on the coffee shop on Main Street! Here in Seattle's Pike Place Market the original Starbucks location still shows the old logo: it's brown instead of green, shows the entire mermaid's body and fins, and is more life like with her (ahem) "girls" exposed. Finally and sadly this is the end of an era. Our Mouseketeer family is moving from Southern California to Texas! This is very likely the last trip to Disneyland for at least a few years. Sad! OK, let's get into the Fav 5! I've noted in which park you can find each of my favorites, either Disneyland or DCA (Disney's California Adventure). 1. Oogie Boogie Bash - The Halloween Party @ DCAThis year we visited DCA for the Halloween Party called the Oogie Boogie Bash! It's a special event that requires a separate ticket purchase. They held the party a few nights week throughout September and October. By the time we went on October 12, all of the tickets were totally sold out for the rest of the month! The party starts at 6 pm but you could enter the park, in costume, as early as 3:00 pm. We arrived just after 4:00 pm and stayed until about 9:30 pm. This party is the one and only time a year where adults are allowed to visit the park in costumes! Did you know that you're NOT allowed to go to the Disney Parks in costume? Our crew of 7 were all dressed as Disney Characters and we looked great, if I may say so. Bryce and I were Mary Poppins and Bert the chimney sweep from (the original) Mary Poppins, we had Merida and her mother from Brave, Miguel and Hector from Coco, and Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame! It was so fun to be in character in the park! DCA is always fully decorated for holidays, you may remember I admired the Christmas decor a few years ago. Every Halloween detail was just right for the season this year. The party really took the experience up a few levels! There are "Treat Trails" where kids and adults can Trick or Treat inside the park. Treat bags are distributed to everyone and the candy was generously distributed. My favorite part was the Villians Grove where you could meet many costumed characters. These weren't your daily lineup of Disney favorites it was the VILLIANS! Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella, and more. Originally I was hesitant to go to the specially Halloween party because I love a classic and sunny park day but I LOVED Oogie Boogie's Bash and would highly recommend going to it if you get the chance. 2. Slow Burnin' Mac 'n' Cheese Cone @ DCAThe Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land are forever my favorite place to eat at DCA. Cone #3 is where I get my favorite chili "cone" queso and during the Halloween season it's also where you can get the Slow Burnin' Mac 'n' Cheese Cone. I've seen this fire-y cone on Instagram for years and was so excited to get my hands on one this year! It's mac 'n' cheese made with spicy red-pepper sauce, topped with crushed spicy Cheetos, and served in a black bread cone. It was perfectly spicy and so delicious! I reluctantly shared with Bryce and he loved it, too. 3. Spoke-y Cone Macaron @ DCADo not leave Cars Land. Do not leave the Cozy Cones. Just head directly to Cone #4 for dessert! That's where the seasonal Spoke-y Cone Macaron can be found. It looks like an orange traffic cone, of course, with a particularly spooky face! It's filled with marshmallow buttercream and candy corn. Disney's bakers are straight from heaven. This macaron was delectable! Sweet, chewy, and perfectly baked. It looks like it might be overly sweet but it wasn't, it was just right and I loved it. Even my sister-in-law Renee, a self proclaimed candy corn HATER, enjoyed this macaron. 4. Corn Dog Castle @ DCAWhile this one isn't a seasonal Halloween item it is something in disguise. Here were heading to old favorite of mine: the Corn Dog Castle at DCA. I'm a pescatarian which means that I don't eat meat but I do eat fish (plus dairy and other stuff) so corn dogs aren't something for me. I'm here to tell you about the Cheddar Cheese Stick from the Corn Dog Castle. It's the first great meat-less item I ever found in the park and a hidden vegetarian gem! While this may look like a regular corn dog there's no meat at all. This "dog" is filled with CHEESE. Yes, cheese dipped in corn batter and fried. It's not seasonal but it's amazing, nostalgic, and delicious. 5. Jolly Holiday's Spooky Seasonal Treats @ DisneylandThe day after we partied at Oogie Boogie a few of us went back for another park day at Disneyland. It was our original girls crew: myself, my sister-in-law Renee, and her daughter and we spent a full day running around the park together. This is our favorite tradition and one we've been doing together since 2014. Now that we've ventured together all the way to Walt Disney World in Florida together, and my niece is hardly little anymore, this felt super special. You may not be surprised to know that we ate at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, as we typically do! We ordered the same things we always get: I get an iced latte and the Jolly Holiday Salad, Renee gets the Roast Beef and Manchego Sandwich, and my niece gets the kids Macaroni and Cheese. The baked goods at Jolly Holiday are always the best part, let's be real! We got carried away and ordered FIVE.
