The Oregon Coast - Fav 5 {Travel Guide}

11/13/2020

0 Comments

Fav 5 Travel Guides are a short list of the best things I've found to do, see, eat, or drink in a particular location. This guide is for the Oregon Coast.

For more from the Pacific Northwest (PNW) check out the Let's See Seattle series with posts like Seattle for Kids and Seattle for Seasoned Visitors.

Because we're moving back to Hawaii, Bryce and I have constructed a bucket list for things to do in the PNW while we're still here.

Visiting Oregon was on that list. We decided on Manzanita because it's closer (to Seattle) than Bend, it's on the ocean, and because of the nearby Tillamook Creamery!

We visited Manzanita with our dear friends Lauren and Nate plus our dog (Jameson), and their two dogs (Dexter and Bailey)!

Roma - Rome, Italy - Part 2 Fav 5 {Travel Guide}

Fav 5 {Travel Guides} are a short list of the best things I've found to do, see, eat, or drink in a particular location. This guide is for Rome, Italy.

This Travel Guide covers my second trip to Rome. See Roma - Rome, Italy - Part 1 {Travel Guide} for even more of the Eternal City.

Look no further for more posts about International Travel and additional Italian cities including Florence, Naples, and Palermo.

Rome is a dream. It's the Eternal City. All roads lead to it! When in Rome, do as the Romans do, whatever that means.

Rome feels like the center of Italy, Europe, and even the world. It's the first city we touched down in during our first big trip out of the country and a place that I will always gladly return to.
Just two years after Bryce and first I visited Rome we went back, again, with my parents. We weren't quite seasoned travelers but we knew enough to make the most of a few short days in the Eternal City. We had a well oiled plan for our visit including many of the historical sights, a visit with the Pope, and so SO much delicious Italian food.

Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure | Holiday Edition - Fav 5 {Travel Guide}

11/30/2018

Fav 5 Travel Guides are a short list of the best things I've found to do, see, eat, or drink in a particular location. This guide is for Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure Park, both located in Anaheim, California.

For more on these two parks see the Fav 5 Disneyland and Fav 5 Disney's California Adventure. If you just can't get enough we've got a whole Disney section here at Figs and Flights.

My husband and I met in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we both used to live. I couldn't have wished for a better hometown for a spouse than one that's within an hour's drive to Disneyland. The first time I traveled home with him he obliged me with a trip to Disneyland.

That was 9 years ago and he and I will both tell you that the addition of my Disney-loving sister-in-law, Renee, to the family has made the Disney situation better for both my husband and I. I visit the parks with Renee at least once, often times twice, every time we come to town while my husband and his brother get quality time with their immediate family and away from the parks. It's a win-win situation for us all.

During our Thanksgiving visit this year we managed two trips to the parks: on the Monday before the holiday and on Thanksgiving Day! Most people thought we were crazy for going on Thanksgiving and those doubters even had me worrying that the parks were going to be similar to an overcrowded zoo. Luckily the Thursday crowd was just slightly more noticeable than that Monday. It was actually more fun to be surrounded by other kids-disguised-as-adults who threw tradition to the wind and prioritized MAGIC over turkey and football. Disney decorates for Christmas just after Halloween so the parks were decked out in their holiday best for our November visits.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Fav 5, Part 3 {Travel Guide}

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is my hometown. I visited twice last summer and gave you two Fav 5 Travel Guides (part 1 and part 2) plus a little tour of my favorite hometown park, Kennywood!

This year I visited "da Burg" again and now you're looking at Part 3.

On this year's trip to Pittsburgh we checked so many good spots from the list. You'll enjoy my hyper-local favorite bakeries, plenty of regional coffee, some South Side spots, a celebratory dinner, and an Italian meal to remember.

1. Regional Coffee - Sheetz and Dunkin Donuts
2. Neighborhood Celebrities - Mancini's Bread and Better Maid Donuts
3. A sober South Side Morning - BYS Yoga and Doublewide Grill
4. Celebrating in Station Square - the Grand Concourse
5. A visit to Sewickley - dinner and dessert Mambo Italiano

Nashville, Tennessee - Fav 5 {Travel Guide}

6/3/2018

'Fav 5' travel guides include 5 of the best spots I've found to eat, drink, and explore in a city while visiting. This guide is for Nashville, Tennessee, focused specifically on the sights and sounds in downtown Nashville.

Recent Fav 5 travel guide locations include Vancouver, BC in Canada and Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.

Nashville, Tennessee. What began as a high school band trip for my cousin and her 15 year old daughter turned into a family vacation for 10 people! We took on Music City like it was our job. While a large group with various interests and staggering ages wasn't easy to coordinate, we all carefully selected which activities and tours to go on during our 5 days in Nashville.

Nashville is both the capital of and the most populated city in Tennessee. This guide will cover locations specifically in downtown Nashville including "Lower Broadway." Named for the street running through it, Lower Broadway is the heart of the country music district. It is dotted with stores filled with boots and hats galore and you can't count the number of cycle bar tours and bachelorette parties whizzing by. You'll be delighted to catch colorful murals and live music around every corner.

Travel tip: Checking the Uber website before flying into any city is always a great idea. Many airports have the "ride sharing" pickup in some corner of a back building somewhere, accessible only by hidden elevators or water taxis, and you can waste plenty of time looking for it. Here is your guide on how to catch an Uber in the Nashville airport (BNA).
